After eight workshop sessions at CHSSC, participants of
Henry Ong's writing/oral history class geared up and presented "Chinese American Stories,"
an evening of community, family and individual memories and narratives. The performance
was presented at the monthly program meeting of January 9, 2008. It will be presented again
at the Pacific Asia Museum, as "Stories for and about the Mother of Chinese Americans.

This project hopes to capture the stories and memories of the generation of Chinatown residents who came of age during World War II. Over the course of the coming year, the society has a goal of documenting in detail the lives and experiences of as many former residents of the Chinatown area as possible. The Society's Oral History Internship Program will train volunteer-interns in the basics of oral history interviewing, recording, transcribing, and archiving. | Portraits of Pride (PoP) Book 1 Reprint 2008 is now available for purchase. PoP is a book project of the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California. Book 1 documents the dramatic life stories of 38 Chinese American men and women of the WWII era in Southern California whose accomplishments in science, technology, medicine and education are largely unknown. Book 2 is upcoming, documenting life stories of notable Chinese Americans throughout the United States. | ||
Scott Chan, one of the very first CHSSC oral history project intern,
is involved with Leadership In Action 2007 Group Project which documents Asian American and Pacific Islander murals around Los Angeles.
One of them is in Chinatown (see photo at left). They have formed a pamphlet and it is free for download at
