South Coast Chinese Cultural AssociationTo preserve Chinese heritage, to enrich our life with cultural diversity, and to integrate into the mainstream society. History The South Coast Chinese Cultural Association )SCCCA) was founded in 1977 as a non-profit organization. There are 5 functional groups, the Irvine Chinese School, the ICS Parent-Teacher Organization, the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, the Irvine Chinese Chorus, and the Second Generation Association. SCCCA started to build the Chinese Cultural Center as their permanent campus since fall of 2003 at 9 Truman Street in Irvine. On April 24, 2005, SCCCA held the Grand Opening for the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center. This complex covering 4 city blocks, has 30,000 square feet, cost $15 million dollars to build. Activities/Achievements/Awards SCCCA offers various arts, musical, and athletic programs and performances to the public. Their programs include Chinese Brush Painting, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese knotting, Tai Chi Chuan and Sword, Mu Lan Chuan and Sword, Ping Pong., Basketball, Badminton, Yoga, Chinese Computer, Book Discussion, Chorus, Strings Orchestra, and Ballroom Dance. Vital to the accomplishments are generous support and donations of countless volunteers. Their programs rely on over 20,000 volunteer hours every year. An Annual Fund Raising Dinner is held in the Spring. This year, over 900 guests attended. Future Ownership of our own campus presents a tremendous opportunity to ensure the execution of our mission and the stability of our programs, to reach out to broader populations, and to meet the emerging needs of our community. As we enter this historical period of our organization and for the Chinese Americans, our vision is crystal clear. It is focused on how Chinese cultural and language programs can be best deployed to meet the community needs. website: www.sccca.org |
