Mission Statement |
The Los Angeles Times, in a 1995 editorial, observed that the early Chinese, "scorned as 'heathens,' suffered much at the hands of American society. Even in death they were the target of discrimination. Chinese were confined to a part of Evergreen Cemetery otherwise set aside for indigents; the indigents were buried free but there was a $10 charge for Chinese." We've provided an overview of how the Society was instrumental in establishing L.A. City Historical Monument No. 486. You may also choose the full report and photographs examining the history of what The Times called a "fitting tribute to hard-working immigrants who helped a small pueblo become a major world metropolis." |
